Description

"The Light Bulb Series" is a special collection that emerged as a result of reflections on the light bulb as an archetype. Its typical form has been interpreted by a number of surprising ideas. James Wines develops these concepts around the central themes that pervade his architectural studies: inversion, dissolution, all cases of "architectural disruptions" that make it possible to rethink nature and reality. The full range of five pieces has been specially designed with collectors in mind and is sold in a numbered limited edition. Foscarini also presents a spin-off of the collection for a wider audience: Two lamps from the series – White Light and Black Light – can now be purchased separately. While White Light represents the matrix of the object-lamp icon, still firmly preserved as the archetype of lighting, Black Light works on the concept of inversion, a typical parameter in the work of James Wines. In this case, we see that the body of the bulb emits light, but the bulb itself remains black and "dark". An attractive option for those impressed by James Wines' conceptual approach and critical reflections.

PRODUCT CARE

Disconnect the lamp from the power source and clean the product with a soft damp cloth soaked in soap or neutral liquid detergent, preferably diluted with water. Strictly avoid using ethyl alcohol or detergents that contain even small amounts of acetone, trichlorethylene and ammonia (common solvents). Make sure the power supply is unplugged during installation and whenever you work on the lamp.

James Wines

James Wines, who won the National Design Award in 2013, is the president and founder of SITE, an architecture, environmental art and design group founded in New York in 1970. He has designed more than 150 buildings in 11 countries and received 25 awards in the field of art and design. The focus of his work is the integration of art, architecture and landscape in an environmental context. Wines, Professor of Architecture at Penn State University, continues to write and lecture internationally on integrative thinking and environmental themes.
The story of the collaboration between Foscarini and James Wines spans almost 30 years. Its origins date back to 1991, with Table Light/Wall Light being the first track produced by Foscarini with Wines' band SITE. A few years later, Foscarini and SITE crossed paths again, resulting in an extensive profile published in Inventario. This gave rise to the idea of reviving Foscarini's first project, turning it into a collection of lamps and objects.
