Description
The Dodo blown glass side table is made by Murano's master glassmakers using the traditional Balloton technique. The body of the table stands out with a three-dimensional diamond pattern created using a metal mould. The points in the mould shape the molten glass during blowing, creating the faceted effect typical of Balloton craftsmanship. On the top surface, a slightly offset mandala pattern forms where the mould's diamond patterns meet; this decoration recalls the petals of a flower or the flawless symmetries also seen in Buddhist tradition, reflecting the splendour of nature.
The optical effect is extremely striking; the shadows formed in the curves of the coloured glass table allow light to reflect softly and delicately between the regular indentations. The three pointed legs supporting the table contrast with the model's rounded lines, adding a slight retro touch to the overall design while offering an entirely contemporary style. This table is a design masterpiece that showcases the splendour of handcrafted glassmaking.
