Anna Castelli Ferrieri is an Italian architect and industrial designer known for her pioneering influence on the use of plastic as a design material and for founding the Italian contemporary furniture company Kartell. Componibili Bio has been Kartell’s iconic modular pieces for over fifty years, designed to meet different needs and to be compatible in every room of the house. The design solution that animates the Componibili system is the stacking of individual solid pieces, which form practical storage units through simple interlocking. It is made in a new version with a revolutionary sustainable material. Continuous research and progressive innovation in industrial processes have made it possible to create a biopolymer made from raw materials derived from renewable resources, of agricultural origin, GMO-free, not intended for the food chain. The product responds to the sustainability characteristics highlighted in the manifesto “Kartell loves the planet” and corresponds to some of the points on the ONU 2030 agenda for sustainable development. The product has received the TÜV Austria international certification with the maximum number of stars and has become a design object that has gained value over time.
